My pc is too noisy?

Here are my specs
cpu - core 2 quad Q9550 2.83 GHZ
mobo - Asus P5G41T-MLX
memory - 4GB ddr3(will upgrade to 8GB)
gpu - HD 6670 2GB ddr3(will upgrade to 750 ti)
hdd - wd caviar green 1tb
psu - Antec VP450P

My pc is pretty silent at normal use(browsing,movie,etc), but when gaming, it gets too noisy, too much that it is annoying to play games with all that noise.
I don't have enough money for a fresh build, i only have enough for the ram and gpu upgrade.
I got the cpu from ebay 3 weeks ago.
i originally had a pentium d 820 2.80 Ghz cpu, which i later upgraded to a dual core E5700 3 Ghz cpu while keeping pentium d's stock cooler, which was ok(no problem whatsoever), but recently i upgraded to the Q9550, and used the pentium d's stock cooler.
I monitored the temperature with HWMonitor when playing games.

what kind of fans, aside from the Intel Stock fan, do you have installed?
Also your going to notice that the Core 2 Quad will get very hot. the Q9550 is supposed to be cooler but i noticed that many users reported higher temps with the 45nm C2Q then the older 65nm C2Q. even my Q6600 ran about 70°C+ on stock speed. The core 2 quad architecture ran quite inefficiently compared to AMDs Phenom Quad cores due to core optimization

My pc was originally pre built about 8 years ago, a pentium D pc, then did a few upgrades later on. I didn't install any new fans other than the ones at that time. Other than the stock heatsink, there is one rear fan, not sure which type.
The idle temperature is 40 - 50 C
The most demanding game i have right now is Tomb Raider
I tested by playing the game for about an hour.

The fan was too noisy when playing Tomb Raider, making it nearly unplayable. The same situation with the original crysis game.

I tried playing this game about an hour after i turned off the pc. The fan was pretty silent when playing this game. This game has awesome music, so a minor disturbance would annoy me, but it was enjoyable, ie little to no noise.

It was stable, test successful. It did make some noise during the test, after that, it went silent

I read in another thread here that pentium D's were so hot and even hotter than the C2Q, and the D's stock heatsink can be used for the quad. Even the old pentium D didn't make this much noise at 100% usage.
Please help, i donno what to do

The Pentium D for the most part was a flop from Intel. aside from the Pentium D 830. But it is essentially the same types of thermal issues but hotter with Core 2 quad's architecture. The Pentium D used 2 separate dies with a core on each, while the core 2 duo was a Huge success and was far better than what AMD had to offer and to this day a stcok clocked E8500 will outperform an FX 6300 in single-threaded applications....But, I digress, The Q6600 is essentially two Core 2 E6600 die on one Chip. Making it a MCM. This has a pretty high thermal output regardless of most air cooling solutions. Now not every Core 2 Quad q9550 is going to run super hot and may even OC past 4.0GHz. if your still reading then I guess you ould manually set the CPU voltage to a lower value. I can't recall every LGA 775 Chipset but I am quite sure that your MB can do this.

Wouldn't overclocked cpus be much hotter than stock clocked? I haven't tried overclocking, and will not do it. I just need to hold it for a couple of years, and then i will do a fresh build.
Well, if it can be OC ed to 4 ghz and still not be super hot, does that mean it is the problem of the heatsink?
Is it because the fan is running at nearly 3500 RPM? It is just too loud.
Wouldn't changing voltage cause permanent damage to the chip, or atleast reduce performance?(i don't want to take any chances)
Will it help if i get a new decent cooler?

Sorry I did mean to OC. I was just saying that in most cases the Core 2 Q9xx0 series are going to run hot OC'd or Not. But with many LGA775 Scoket motherboards you can change some CPU settings at least with Most Chipsets. Look for Vcore or what your motherboard specifies is for tuning the CPU voltage. Normally the Core 2 CPUs are between 0.8500v-1.3625v according to Intel. Just for running at Stock speeds you have a little headroom to undervolt.
