This is very random my PC keeps restarting by itself. One minute its working fine the next it turns off then on again for no reason. I've done a virus scan and nothing. My graphics card is fine and there is no overheating I'm worried about this.

I'm mainly worried as i keep trying to complete work on word but it keeps shutting down during my usage of word. any ideas?

The Corsair VS line is one of the lower quality models under the brand. You may want to try a better quality PSU like the CX550/650 (not the 500/600 which are older-generation models and similar in quality to the VS) if you want to stay with Corsair.

No blue screens, just goes black and continues to do a normal restart. As for the CPU no overheating as far as I'm aware the case itself is always cool and the fan on the CPU is fine, no CPU usage going above 40-80% when playing games like WoW and so on.

My components are
Intel Core i5 4590 3.30GHz
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS10X Optima
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows 7 Premium 64-bit
Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3
8GB Corsair 2133mhz Vengeance (2x4GB)
Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 2133Mhz
Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB and 1TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB
PSU: 650W Corsair VS
