Question My PC lags after it's been running for a while ?

When I first boot up my computer, I realize that my PC does not run smoothly. After I restart my computer, everything becomes smooth again/ After around 2 hours of running my computer everything suddenly becomes choppy and uncomfortable to run and play with.

My PC does not have a cooling problem and none of my components go above 70°c. My internet is also not an issue because I have checked my speeds before and after it starts to lag, and the internet speeds didn't change. I have been also told to close other programs that add to the load my CPU is running, but this has not helped me at all because I have been running only one program at a time the past few days and I have not realized a difference. I have also discovered that I am not dealing with a framerate issue, because I get the same FPS, smooth or not. Unfortunately, I am not able to share my screen recording because the forum doesn't allow me to add a video file.
Specs:
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600x
  • GPU: AMD rx580
  • Motherboard: MSI Gen 3 B550 gaming
  • 16 gb RAM
  • 850W Power Supply

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

850W Power Supply
850W is the advertised wattage of the unit. What is the make and model of the unit and it's age?

Motherboard: MSI Gen 3 B550 gaming
BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time?

16 gb RAM
Got a link to the ram used?

How are you cooling the processor? Make and model of the case you're working with?

Host your images/videos on Imgur(or their ilk) and then parse a link for us to see.

The PSU is very new I ordered it around a month ago.

I am using a heat sink to cool my processor and I am not using the AMD stock fans.

When smooth

Not 100% sure if you can see the lag difference between the two screen recordings.
The lag does not progress and get worse over time the lag happens suddenly and then I have to restart my computer. I deal with this daily.

I am going to check my BIOS drivers to see if they are up to date, I will update you on that shortly.

This is where you state what you're using to cool the processor instead of being vague.

As for your ram, are you running them at DDR4-4000MHz?
I updated my BIOS and I still have the problem.

My CPU Heat Sink and my apologies for being vague.

My RAM is DIMM at a speed of 3200MHz

That is when "choppy"? Can you make a pic like this to show what it is like when choppy?

Have you cleared CMOS after the bios update? If not, you should do. THen test again.
I have cleared the CMOS, and I still have the problem unfortunately. Although I am not entirely sure that I cleared the CMOS, I heard all I have to do is take out the battery and reinstall it, is that correct?

Needs to be done with the pc of the power and take the battery out for at least 5 minutes. Also when having done this go back into the bios and load at least "optimal default values". Would be good to enable xmp or with MSI A-XMP again.

For the choppy part, what happens if you use rammap to clear the standby memory?

What ssd are you using btw? And how full is it?

I am running a Crucial 1 TB SSD, and it has 546gb free of 930gb available. I highly doubt that storage is an issue because I had this problem before I started installing programs.

I tried clearing the standby memory in RAMmap and the problem still occurs.

I didn't clear the CMOS correctly so I will update you on that shortly.

You unplug and disconnect as @Vic 40 mentioned. Take the battery out, and most importantly, short two pins marked CLRTC on the motherboard. To short the pins, simply touch the two pins with a flathead screwdriver. You only need to touch them for a couple of seconds.
Then put the battery back in. When you boot up again, you will no it's successful, as you will be presented with a screen that's different than normal boot, and tells you to go to bios to configure it.
