I got a z390 EVGA Dark mobo and an 860 EVO 4tb SSD. On EVGA website I can't find an AHCI/SATA driver to try and update to see if that will help. Any ideas?

Latest BIOS? Ensured firmware is up-to-date on the 860?

Assuming Windows 10?

I believe the drivers are baked into Chipset drivers these days.... assuming you've installed the latest Chipset driver 10.1.17.1?

There are ways to 'force' the issue, but I'd make sure you've exhausted all avenues beforehand.

Ultimately, there's no harm in leaving it as-is, but it shouldn't be showing up like that.

It has the latest BIOS and the chipset. I'm running Windows 10. How do I check to see if I have the latest firmware for the 860?

Edit: Just figured out how to update firmware and after it is still there.

Both My 2011 PCs with windows 10 shows my A-data 960GB SSD as eject able also, I have AHCI turned on in the BIOS. Back when I had windows 7 the default was Eide but I changed the registry setting and changed it to AHCI in the BIOS. I thought that was normal?? AHCI is supposed to enable hot swapping.

Internal SATA storage should not 'normally' show up as ejectable, no. It's not a problem per se, but you shouldn;'t have the ability to eject.

It was more common with W7, IIRC... but it's been a while.

As an aside, SATA (by spec) supports hot swapping. AHCI is the technical implementation that allows it to be recognized by the system.

However, hot-swapping was a thing long before the AHCI standard released .... 2005ish.

Regardless, it's best practice to ensure the motherboard is expecting hot-swapping (or not, as the case may be), by ensuring it's enabled for the appropriate ports in the BIOS.
