my pc turns on for a quarter second and shuts off

my fans dont do a full turn they just move and my leds turn on for a quater second. i reaplied thermal paste to my cpu, my power supply appears to be good, im just not sure whats wrong, my motherboard light stays on.

I would check again that you have all the correct power supply connections. Typically it's one 24pin AND a secondary 8pin (or 4 pin) connector to the motherboard. Many people forget this second connection (usually up in the area of the cpu), double check you have it.

If you have a dedicated graphics card, it too many need to be connected to your power supply. Make sure it's connected.

That's where I'd start. And if you're not booting, I'd disconnected them all, and reseat them, just to make sure. Next, I'd take out the ram, and reseat it. If that doesn't work, I'd try a single stick in a slot, then another slot.

If you have all the connections, and reseating doesn't fix you up, then I'd head on over to this thread and follow the...
sometimes power supplies come pushing 5 volts on the 12 volt rail, doa.

that could be the issue cause i have seen it. if you have a volt meter or take the psu to a local computer store and ask them nicely to test the psu.

this has happened once before and i was told to reapply my heat synce on my cpu and that worked. everything is hooked up properly, ive done it twice. ill just have to hook up another psu to it and try that
