Hi everyone

I've had this issue for a long time and not found any solution. Basically when I'm playing games and even happens sometimes when I'm just watching YT or doing very little my PC will freeze with a loud buzzing noise coming out the headset or speaker. The only way to get out of the freeze is to hard reset the pc. It's not a heat issue, I had a heat monitor open on my 2nd monitor to watch it as it froze.

Here are my PC specs:
  • Power Supply Corsair CX600 600W
  • Processor Intel Core i7 7700K 4.2Ghz Turbo 4.5Ghz
  • Processor Cooler Coolermaster Hyper 412S
  • RAM 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400Mhz [2x8GB]
  • Motherboard Asus PRIME Z270-P [NEW]
  • Graphics card Nvidia GeForce® GTX 1070 8GB
  • Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 2TB Hard Drive 7200rpm 64MB Cache
  • 2nd Hard Drive 128GB ADATA SU800 Solid State Drive
  • Sound card Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
  • Network card Integrated 10/100/1000Mbps
  • Wireless Card Asus N10 150MBPS
  • Windows 10 OS

Here are the things I've tried to fix it with no avail:
  • Factory reset
  • Fresh windows install
  • Headset on/heasdset off
  • memtest86 - no errors
  • 1 monitor/ 2 monitors
  • Going into event viewer - no errors leading up to the crash and then just 'fatal error' when it crashes
  • reinstalling graphic drivers
  • reinstalling audio drivers
  • Disabling all audio drivers except the 1 I use

So would love any help you can provide. I'm very frustrated as I use my pc for broadcasting work and it has died on me during that before as well.

Thank you

run userbenchmark.com and post the http link of your result, e.g. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/28977730

Reset the BIOS by jumper clrCMOS or JBAT or similar (eventually you will have to set the bios priority correctly after that)

check windows integrity
open the command prompt as administrator and type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

check the memory by running memtest.org usb autoinstaller (bootable USB flash drive)
sometimes more accurate than memtest86

check the hard drive for errors with its manufacturer´s tool

update the BIOS of your motherboard by EZ flash menu within your BIOS

I struggled with this. I couldn't find the pins to jump start and I was worried about removing components to do it.

check windows integrity

Did this. No issues

Done :)

check the memory by running memtest.org usb autoinstaller (bootable USB flash drive)
sometimes more accurate than memtest86

Turns out that's the one I did not memtest86 lol

check the hard drive for errors with its manufacturer´s tool
No erros
update the BIOS of your motherboard by EZ flash menu within your BIOS
It is updated.

I guess now I just need to see if the crash/freeze happens again.

I'm certainly no expert but I have had issues like this over the years and they usually had to do with a display driver crashing. It might be worth using DDU to uninstall your graphics driver and then reinstall manually, but no guarantees that'd work. It did seem to partially fix my issue, though, even though I ended up having to replace my GPU.

Also, it's not showing the traditional BSOD but it also might be worth checking out BlueScreenView and seeing if anything is logged. I noticed it sometimes picked up system crashes even when the PC would freeze up on me.

Like I said, I'm not an expert by any means but those are just two things I used when I encountered an issue kinda like your own.

I know it's not ideal but if you were able to borrow someone else's GPU or get a new one, you could always try that and see if it fixes the issue. I know that uninstalling and reinstalling display drivers helped for a little while but eventually, I had to replace the GPU. It was an old Nvidia GTX 650 and I was planning to upgrade anyways, so it worked out for me, but I get that you might not want to replace yours.

If you still have a warranty on your card, there's a possibility they might be able to replace it for you.

I think you're definitely at the time it makes sense to swap out the mediocre, old, power supply; this would never be recommended to run an i7 with a 1070. You've pretty much ruled out most of the things that aren't PSU issues.
Yeah I think that's what I'll do. Do you have any power supply reccomendations? (Is it fairly straightforward to replace?)
