My pce-i 6 pin won't connect to my new gtx 1060

So I tried plugging my gtx 1060 into my 6 pin pce-I. It doesn't seem to fit. It goes in but it is hard to plug in and hard to get out. But when I plug my other gpu in which is the 550 ti. It seems to plug in easier.

I have a 400w psu. It's a standard one.

Do you think I should buy a new psu? Is that the problem?if so I am going to buy an EVGA 500w. Since it's for gaming.

If its a 6pin pcie connector it should fit. If the latch goes over the tab and the power connector sits flush its fine. Your 550 ti is much older and the connector may have worn a bit making the 6pin fit easier, or it just has a different connector with a slightly different fit.

When I forced the connector in. I turned my pc on and on the start up my gpu fan was spinning for like 5-7 seconds. Then it would just stop spinning

Thats normal, the 1060s fans don't spin up until it reaches 60c. Then spin for a second when the computer is first turned on then they shut off and stay off until the gpu core reaches 60c.

500W EVGA models are junk power supplies.

Go with a 550W GS or G2.

Okay, I see. One more thing. When it booted up, the resolution was really low. So I don't know if I was using the 1060 or my processor's graphics card. I didn't know if my 1060 was powering at all. It was so laggy that I just shut it off. I haven't installed the drivers yet. I don't know if the conector was completely plugged in or not.


Should I risk it or should I get a new psu. Also is 400w even enough for the 1060??

400watts should be enough assuming the power supply isn't awful and makes its rated wattage. There is no label on your 400watt psu? It should say the make and model on it somewhere. Are you plugging your display cable into the back of the gpu and not the motherboard? If you plug into the mobo it will use integrated. The resolution could be off due to you not having the nvidia 1060 drivers installed.
