I just got a PIII-800E CPU but my motherboard doesn't seem to accept it - it hangs on startup. I've tried manually setting FSB and multiplier settings, as well as clearing the CMOS and forcing certain settings.

I think the problem may be to do with the voltage because my motherboard (TMC TI6NBFV+) apparently only supports 1.8V or above. But the FC-PGA to Slot1 converter I am using should step the voltage down to 1.65V, shouldn't it?

I have also tried the CPU on my other mobo (TMC TI6NBD) but this has the same problem. I have just installed a BIOS update that adds support for coppermine CPUs so why can't I make it work?

Not all slot converters have voltage regulators on them. If it dosen't have jumpers for voltage then it probably dosen't lower the voltage.
Iwill sells a card that regulates and so does Asus.
Also see if you can find a new microcode update installer from Intel. you may need a new microcode for the chip to function properly.

I aint signing nothing!!!
