Hey,
the other week I turned on a software update for my Brother MFC-J4340DW printer, but then somewhere in the middle of the update my kid disabled the power to the printer. Now after turning the printer on, the screen just shows a black line and does not respond to any action. Neither from the computer. Is there any way to save it? Like force a flash update, or hard reset with a current or something?
Thanks in advance.

have you tried uninstalling the printer software and drivers through add/remove , if you do this i would also reccomend you use ccleaner as well as this wil get rid of left overs that might be corupted.

The printer power was disabled during a firmware update for the printer - correct?

Hopefully there is some combination of button presses while powering up that will restore some basic default configuration that will work.

By screen do you mean the LCD?

However, before actually doing anything read through the printer manual for other possible solutions.

The overall concern being that the loss of power may have bricked the printer. The following link may help:

It may be worth the effort to contact Brother's Support before doing anything else.

Just be prepared with all of the specs, model number, serial number etc. beforehand.

At this point, unless you can source a new flash ROM from the manufacturer (that's assuming that it's socketed in the first place), or an entire main board, all you have is a paperweight. Interrupting the flash process as was done leaves the unit without an OS (as it were). The cost of either likely exceeds the price of a new printer.
