around early october i took the laptop down to repaste it, while that went okay i noticed the touchpad stopped working, and after a little while when trying to play a game (geometry dash), everything lockedf up, i could still move the mouse but nothing worked.
so i hard restarted, and i get 3 blinking lights on the caps lock and numlock. okay, no problem, go online and it tells me its a RAM issue.
lord knows whatever hell i went through of buying kits, then returning them until now. i thought maybe the probook would only take low-density ddr3l sticks, so i got those today, and while they work on my travelmate just fine (used it for testing the sticks), the probook would still flash the caps lock and numlock lights 3 times.
i dont know what to do anymore, could try resetting the cmos but the drive bay screws are badly stripped, so is one of the wifi card so i cant tear it down. any ideas on why it wont take those sticks?

If you confirmed the memory is working and is indeed compatible with your laptop, you may be looking at a larger issue and possibly the motherboard itself being bad due to bad DIMM slots.
well i didnt do any extensive testing, but on my travelmate both ram sticks worked fine (i ran memtest), so what imn thinking could be the culprit:
-that
-somehow, the touchpad (laptops can be weird)
-the RAM stick could be 1.5v instead of 1.35v, my travelmate takes both so it could be possible i got lied to

It's entirely possible.
What are the exact make/model/specs of the memory modules you are trying to use? We can double-check to ensure that they will work with your ProBook.

Does the touchpad still not work at all? Could be a cable is lose or got snagged/broke when re-assembling. (Happens ALOT!)

from what i remember the touchpad's cable looked to be intact, so at worst it may just be lose.
the ram sticks has no serial number or anything, it just has a sticker reporting the speeds and assumingly the voltage. my phone is charging right now, will take a pic soon

also i have no idea if the touchpad is still working or not, because the probook wont post (doh)

Choose a set from here: https://eu.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp-compaq/probook-470-g1

He's recommending you find a set that is compatible on their website and order that instead so that you know it is compatible with that laptop.
right, i dont know if i wanna waste more money on it though. im kind of fed up with this laptop at this point, ive wasted a lot of time and a lot of money just trying to get it working again, and trying to understand why it stopped working in the first place. thank you both though

Yes! Exactly. The prob would appear to be, that the ram you have chosen is not suitable. The Crucial configurator is helpful for finding the right ram, specially for laptops.

You can offset the cost by selling your current ram.

okay im pretty late but turns out the daughter board with the extra USB ports on the side was faulty and somehow was causing a ram error... removing it entirely made it post again
