Depending on the laptop it may be in your bios. If this was a windows 8/8.1 laptop there's no key sticker on the laptop as the key is embedded in the bios(mobo). As long as windows was activated prior to doing the free upgrade, you shouldn't have been prompted.
I'd do the OS roll back or use the recovery image disk that came with your laptop to reinstall the OS it came with natively. Then use this simple program to pull the key for your OS as well as other things. Then redo the free upgrade if you really want to.

Use Produkey (Google it). It tells you your windows license key for free, and i have used it. It is a great program that can be useful even on the new keyless PCs
