I installed a second case fan in my system and plugged it into my motherboard, but then found that Windows had hardware reserved 4.1 gb of my RAM. I went into my bios and saw that the BIOS said I only had 4096mb installed rather than 8 GB. Why is this?

how the fan get power? could be shorting something?
I have the fan getting power from my motherboard SYSFAN_2 port. Also, I unplugged both fans and plugged my original case fan into the SYSFAN_1 port and my PC refused to boot. Same thing with the additional fan. However, both fans worked and my system booted fine when plugged into the SYSFAN_2 port.

Sounds like the board has issues.Could be some bad traces or capacitors on the mother board, what kind of PSU do you have ? You could get some adapters and run them off the power supply.
