My screen resolution causes black bars at top and bottom of my screen on videos.

Hello
When i factory reset my computer and downloaded all my drivers again i found that my old resolution no longer fit, i normally used 1680x1050 and this would fit perfectly however now i need to use 1600x1200 and this looks slightly stretched horizontally. When i watch a video the top and bottom have huge black bars. How do i fix this and go back to my old resolution (my old resolution does not fit my screen currently). It's possible that's how that movie/show is made with the movie bars. Have you tried other videos to test this? If so this is just a case of messing around with the resolution to find the best one

The black bars can be a sign of defective connections to the monitor, or a failing video chip (failing GPU).
Try a different monitor.
Try a different video card. (try re-seating the video card in the slot)
Try a different video output if there is one...
