kingston snv2s100g (working)
Samsung ssd 860 evo m.2 1tb (not working)

The two m.2 SSDs listed above are both listed in device manager under disk drives. They also show up in my bios. The kingston I believe is an NVMe SSD and is working fine. I just tried to install the samsung but it doesnt seem to show up as a local disk for me to install games on. What am I doing wrong here? Im pretty sure the samsung is Sata.

I tried looking in disk management to create a partition but I dont see it anywhere in disk management. Only the Kingston is there and my 32gb usb flash drive.

I just tried switching from uefi boot mode to csm .... no luck...

switching from uefi to csm seems to enable/disable secure boot for me... but i could be wrong.. I dont see any other way to enable/disable secure boot in my bios. Valorant requires secure boot enabled in order to play the game and switching the boot modes helped with this, so I dont think its a secure boot thing.

I read that I can try switching the m.2's around but idk its weird they both show up in my bios and in my device manager but thats it. The samsung doesnt seem to be functional and idk how to partition it as a hard drive.. its not showing up in device manager.... Ive never partitioned a new hard drive this way.... not sure how this really works

Im just trying to install pc games onto it.. not sure how I really do that I thought it would be easy

Please show screenshots from Disk Management and
Windows Storage Spaces (Control Panel/Storage Spaces).

If missing drive appears in Storage spaces, you have to remove it from storage pool and delete storage pool.
Then missing drive will appear in Disk Management.

Note - not all M.2 slots on your board support SATA M.2 drives. 860 evo is sata.
M.2_1 Source (From CPU) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 , supports 22110/2280/2260/2242 devices
M.2_2 Source (From Chipset) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 , supports 2280/2260/2242 devices
M.2_3 Source (From Chipset) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 / SATA mode, supports 2280/2260/2242 devices
M.2_4 Source (From Chipset) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 / SATA mode, supports 2280/2260/2242 devices

I forgot to mention I'm using windows 11... I wasn't able to find storage spaces in control panel.

I figured out what was wrong. I had no idea what windows storage space really was. Turns out I had to make a windows storage pool and storage space for my new hard drive. From there I was able to create an E: drive with my Samsung sata m.2.

In case anyone else has this problem this is what I ended up doing...........

1.) Press windows key + I .... this will bring up your settings menu.
2.) Click on the system tab
3.) Click on storage tab
4.) Click advance storage settings
5.) Click Storage spaces
6.) Add a new storage pool and storage space ( I had to choose simple resiliency when creating )

You should be able to format a new disk from here. Once I created my new E: drive I had to make a new folder in it in order to download games from xbox.com onto it....... hope this helps someone in the future
