Folks,

I was wondering if you can help me. My son wanted to build his own computer by himself so I let he do so. To me his hard drive seems to be dogging the system. Let me know what you think. Let me know of any improvements with not only with the hard drive but anything else. I think he did a pretty good job but I have been out of it for a while.

CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2060
SSD: Crucial MX500 500GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB (2018)
RAM: OLOy DDR4 RAM CL16-18-18 D4-3000 2x8GB
MBD: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI

Thank you in advance for any help. have a great day.

Nice build!
What cooler is he going to use on it,since i see that he choose a overclockable cpu with a overclocking motherboard, and thats gonna need some good cooling if he is planning to overclock it.
Yeah, pretty solid build honestly,i have nothing more to add.
Oh yeah what case will he use?
Also the HDD doesnt matter,im rocking my P300 for 5 years without issues.Good choice on the SSD.

What is the make/model of the case, cpu cooler, and the power supply?

All the parts are good.
What makes you think the HDD is a problem?

If you have a budget of perhaps $200, I would replace the 2tb hdd with a ssd.
A ssd is some 4x faster sequentially, and 40x faster randomly.
Random is what windows does most so anything active residing on a ssd will perform better.

Do you have a backup plan?
I would use a HDD for external backup.

WEll seems that the HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB (2018 is a Shingled Magnetic Recording type and slows down the system. Is that correct? His SSD is running his games.

If the operating system is installed on the HDD it could be slower. Other than that it shouldn't have an effect. The only thing you'd have to worry about from my experience is when you need to open something that's on the HDD it'll take a second to spin up, that can cause a minor system hang. But bear in mind the HDD in my system is over 10yrs old lol
