my Sony camcorder isnt playing my 8mm hi8 tapes

My Sony camcorder isn't playing my 8mm or hi8 tapes I hear it rewind and ffwd but no picture or audio, and I tried recording it records but still no playback, could it be the head is dirty? Please help

It is possble it is the playback heads. There are cleaning tapes available but use with extreme caution as overuse can damage the heads.
