My Sony Vaio Laptop keeps shuts down randomly.

Hello everyone,

My VAIO Laptop keeps shutting down randomly.

Sometimes it will work for 6-8 hours straight, or even 16 hours, without any problems before it shuts down.

However, it sometimes shuts down randomly 15 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, after start up, or after 8 hours, running.

When I try turning it off again it will shut down during start up. And this keeps happening for 2-3 times before it starts working "properly" again.

When it's "working" the start up time is between 30s-1m50s. I don't think it has gone over 2 minutes yet.

I don't have a battery (it died a while ago, and I changed the old and damaged HD for a new one around January this year.

The laptop is 3 years old.

Sounds like you had that computer for a while. If the computer has a built in fan then the fan might be coverd in dust and shutting down because it's overheating. Best you can do is get it cleaned and not use it on a blanket or someting that might cover the air vents.

Yeah, this computer has been through quite a bit.

Yeah, the fan is built-in, and I tried cleaning it yesterday as best as I could without unscrewing it. I don't use it on a blanket or anything, it's right on top of the desk.

Hopefully, you are right and that was the problem.

You may have bad ram too.Test it with MemTest.
