Question My speed is slow with a 1 gigabit service ?

lenovo - w7 pro

it's started recently with no additionl changes to my desktop

i have a 1 gigabit service but my actual speed is slow,,,like the latency is not what it was.
it should be quick and responsive. now it is not

ookla says300 - 400
fast.com is the same

normally it should be 800-900

years ago i read something about,,,,i cant remember what,,,latency settings or something,,,but i dont remember

I haven't used it in a while, but I think you have to set your download speed so that it knows how to optimize.

this issue happened with another computer a couple of years ago on another computer and i may have saved the fix but that computer is out.

it had to do with a tweak in the network tcp/ip settings. it was simply to choose or not to choose a setting. i cannot remember

It has been WAY too long since I dealt with Win 7. The biggest thing is the receive window size. TCP Optimizer will tweak that.

i do remember now but i dont wabnt to screw with until i know for sure,,,what i was told to do was uncheck either internet protocol V6 or V4 and i had to go into properties of either and fudge with the dns stuff.

i get all nervous when i do network stuff on my own, so sorry

You DON'T want to uncheck IPv4. That is the common protocol. Disabling IPv6 won't hurt anything. It might help some things. Probably won't change speedtest.

i unchecked v6 and everything is good now. i thought i had to fiddle with dns but i guess not
