My SSD is in my bios, but not the boot order. Only my mechanical drive is. Does this mean I need to do something first before

Enter the BIOS and make the SSD the first boot device. Install the OS on the SSD. Also, connect the SSD to SATA 0 - 0 (SATA III) has the highest priority among the SATA ports

Yes that will work too, Make sure that the SSD is the first boot device in the BIOS.
