EDIT: Wasn't the H100i. It's my STRIX 980. Same problem, different part :p

When idle, I can hardly hear any of my fans. But if I start playing AC 4: Black Flag, the fans are so loud it's hard to hear the game. I checked my other fans, and they're all very quiet in game or idle. It's not the pump, far as I know.

System specs:

i5 4690 3.5ghz
16gb G.Skill Ripjaws 1866
Win 8.1 64-bit
Asus GTX 980 STRIX
Samsung 850 EVO 250gb (OS and games)
Seagate 1tb (storage)

The Corsair Stock fans for that unit *are* quite loud. you can swap them out for models that are better suited for a quiet environment. Noctua makes very good fans as does Phanteks and Enermax.

Those are decent fans but I believe the noctuas are considerably more stealthy. The Noctuas will be the most expensive however.

EDIT: I double checked the Phanteks and the 120mm models (which you would use) are about the same noise wise as the Corsair quiet ed. the ones I use are much quieter but they are 140mm models.

Ok, I feel dumb. It wasn't my H100i. It's the Asus 980 STRIX. Using Corsair Link, I could see that when playing Borderlands 2 (at 1080p with max settings, getting 200+ FPS) It was revving up to nearly 3,000 rpm. Is this normal? Temp was about 50c to 65c while in game.
