Hey guys,

So lets start this out by saying I have no knowledge on speakers or car audio.

Here's the issue- my brother had a sub woofer and amp installed in his car, and I got the car as a hand me down. The first few months it worked great- really loud bass and awesome sounding. Now- it seems like I am always having to turn it down because when the bass gets too loud, the sub cuts out for like 2 or 3 seconds and then turns back on and continues playing for maybe another 2 seconds, and cuts off again, repeating that until I turn the volume down enough to where it is barely even noticeable. After adjusting the volume, the sub works fine. The other speakers in my car are fine and they never cut out, its just the sub when it gets too loud. It used to be so loud that my friends could hear me when I pull up to their house but now its just like a normal car bass with stock audio. If there are any clarifying questions you have go ahead and ask. Thanks!

either you don't have the voltage you used to have, ie alternator dropping, etc. If you drive around without the sub on, for say 10 minutes, does it go louder for longer before cutting out?

also, speakers to wear out and break in. when I used to complete I would break a speaker in for 10 hours with low wattage and white noise, then it was good for about 10 seconds of abuse, then it would start losing db's after that. it sounds like you like to listen to your stereo at high volumes a lot, or that you have gotten used to it and want more.

It also sounds as if you use your gain control as a volume knob. the gain control should be matched to the output, NOT how loud you want it to be. if you want it louder, then get a bigger...

The little blue light on the top of my amp did when I used to turn it up really loud but as I said before its cuts out at a much lower volume than before. How would I fix it to going into protection mode, because It used to go so much louder so I don't really think it should be that big of an issue right?

start with a good battery and upgraded alternator, something in the 200 amp would be a good start, look at ohio generator, stinger, etc.

Then your wiring should be of a good quality. Once that is done, you can go bigger on the amp, bigger on the subs, etc.
