Hi guys, first forum post ever!
My PC has been broken for around a year, the issue is when i turn it on the power lights up for a second, the fans spin as well for a second and it then turns off, after around 10 seconds it repeats this - power light on and fans spin. Im not sure which component is the issue here so as i havent much money i didnt want to risk buying a new psu for example. Has anyone any thoughts? The last time it was working there was a pop up voltage warning message on the desktop.
asus p8z68-m pro
Core i5 2500k
Gtx 560 ti
Corsair 650w 650hxuk
Asus xonar essence stx
8gb ram

Many thanks.
Ps ive tried to isolate the problem by disconnecting everything bar ram and ssd, but it remains the same.

Hi, i assembled the whole system 4 years ago.
Your second question i do not know so im guessing no! Lightning strikes are rare where i live, the house where it broke had a church tower on the opposite side of the road so hopefully that would attract any that was nearby. Its a possibility though!

If you had no Voltage stabilization then your PSU is mayhaps damaged now, also 4 years are enough for a PSU to get damaged without any UPS or surge protection. I recommend you to get a new PSU, Corsair VS650 is cheap as well as a good PSU. ALso get a Surge protector with it, so that your PSU doesnt experiences any overvoltages in future.
Hope it Helps :/

Does your motherboard have any lights on it? And do any of the lights come on/flash, when you turn the PC on? There may be a fault with the motherboard, or the PSU, or both. As Krishan said, I'd say go for a new PSU first, but don't set the whole pc up again, until you can rule out any issues with the MOBO, keep everything but the ram and ssd disconnected.

EDIT: AND BUY A SURGE PROTECTOR! ;)

As I said above, do not set up the full system until you rule out any issues with the mobo. Hopefully the PSU is the only issue, good luck! :)

So what's the exact error message or POST code you are getting? A Corsair HX is a pretty adequate power supply and it should still be good. Without having your actual PC in front of me, I would immediately point fingers at the motherboard more than anything. Have you checked all the connections on your motherboard to make sure everything is in place?
