Hi,

I`m finally in the process of thinking of replacing my car-sized CRT monitor with a sleeky TFT one, however after researching a bit on the subject I still fail to understand a few things and was hoping someone can clear up my little myseries:

1) 19inch or so TFTs have a resolution of 1280 x 1024, on the otherhand any crappy 17inch CRT can easily display at 1600 x 1200. I therefore cant understand how any game could possibly look similar or better on a TFT. Why wouldnt the 1600 x 1200 CRT win hands down?

2) Wide screen. I read that having a widescreen can lead to problems when playing games. Is this still so with modern TFTs? Also, I dont use my monitor to view videos, I attatch the video card to my TV for that...so in my case would wide screen be a good idea just the same or would it just be adding up on potential issues?

3) Scaling resolutions. I dont upgrade my videocard too often....usually every 2 years or so. This was not a problem with my CRT as I just swollowed my pride and decreased the resolution in the newer games, however is this still doable with a TFT? I heard that resolution scaling is much better nowadays...but is it really so?

Well, nothing beats a good CRT image quality wise. Scaling is much better than it used to be but not on a par with CRTs. I am againts widescreeen under 22'', too narrow IMO but that's a matter of tastes I guess.
