my tv is a 1080p led hdtv but is only displaying 720p, why is that?

my 1080p led hdtv is displaying only 720p but it is a 1080p tv why wont it show 1080p, if you can help please help me ?

What video card do you have? Or is it just hooked up to a cable box or something.
