I have a ASUS motherboard model GA-377X-UD3H. It is 3 years old and out of warranty. My USB 3.0 ports are crashing at odd times. In fact they do 1 of 2 things:
1.) Most often the wifi card crashes (It's USB) and it's limited to that or;
2.) Less often (but still enough to be concerned about) all of the USB 3.0 ports crash.
The USB 2 ports are not affected.
Last night, I got a BSOD (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE error). I did a bunch of troubleshooting but was unable to find the culprit driver so I did a clean install of Windows 10 Professional. I also went out and got all the drivers for my components from the manufacturers website(s) after the reinstall. All are Windows 10 capable according to the manufacturers. Today the USB NIC crashed again.
Ive been dealing with this for about 3 months: Here is what I know.
1.) The Power Supply, RAM and USB power all test good.
2.) The Motherboard displays 1 of 3 error codes when the ports fail They are
03;
04 or;
A0.
3.) 2 months ago, on a hunch, I reset the CMOS chip and that cleared the problem up until about a week ago. I thought I had fixed the problem. I tried that this time but to no avail. Please note that I have not replaced the CMOS battery.
4.) I have the latest updates from Microsoft and drivers for all peripherals connected to the 3.0 ports are Windows 10 compatible and downloaded directly from the Manufacturer.
I'm thinking that this is a hardware problem (a bad circuit perhaps) on the motherboard but I don't really want to replace it if I don't have to (I'm not made of money, lol)
Any insight anyone can give would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
