One my hated hardware troubleshooting experience is connecting usb wire with mismatch wire color but its very easy but you need to solder the wire not splice them to have best connection. Also you'll needing a tester( buy it on you're local electronic or hardware store), 100 watts soldering Iron, a soldering paste electrical tape and soldering lead. check the usb diagram of you're PC and the USB diagram of your USB device they to be match or you'll damage both damage you're PC and you're USB device. Use the tester to proper locate the wire to right place on you're usb male connector and usb wire. splice the wire connect them using a figure 8 knot(Boys Scout) apply soldering paste on the knot, melt a soldering lead with coating soldering paste and solder the knot. Note also that the the usd wires have mylar treads bundle with the copper wires, you have to remove the or you'll problem with you're connection
