This happened after I downloaded Windows 8. A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32

Remove all of the Universal Serial Bus drivers from device manager and restart the laptop.

This has happened to me and my laptop many times before.

The first thing you want to do to fix this is:

1. Search "device manager" in the search thingy.
2. Open the "universal serial bus controllers" folder/tab, These are your USB ports located on your computer.
3. If one of them(or all) is not working there should be a yellow exclamation mark beside it
4. If so right click one the one with the yellow exclamation mark and hit "disable", hit okay.
5. Now re-enable it and it should work agian! :)

If not then I'm afraid you will need to hope that somebody with better expertise then me answers. :/

If this help can you please solve the question and not leave it open :)

Best Regards,
Preston.

Thank you gentlemen. I tried both ways and neither worked. I also tried updating it and I keep receiving a message that Windows already recognizes that the software is up to date. If I figure something out I will post an update.

Thank you for the reply.

I hope you figure it out soon.
Best hopes.

Though your issue seems to be a bit different, but tweaking the settings as mentioned in the following article might help :

http://www.registryrecycler.com/blog/2013/12/how-to-fix-usb-drive-issues-after-installing-windows-8-1/

many users have come across the usb trigger issues where it is either not detected or goes to an idle state.
