i've posted before how much i despise these stores and their whacked
pricing structure.

but today, we were at the mall, so to bury some time, i popped in to
see what i had been missing and to remind myself of why i will never
shop at these places.

new MVP 2005 for $49.95... seriously.
used Halo 1 for $39.95
3 used Gladius: 1 for $24.95 and 2 for $19.95
new THUG2 for $39.95
used THUG2 for $30
used PGR (on shelf) for $19.99
used PGR (in "bin") for $9.99
used Morrowind (NOT GotY) for $19.99
used Morrowind GotY for $19.99
used Madden 2002 for $9.99
used Madden 2003 for $9.99

i wish i could remember them all, but i left the store laughing
inside...
until i stepped out the door and saw a dad with his three boys walking
in.
then i just felt really bad.

One of the CompUSAs in my area had a manager's blowout with clearanced
video games. There were some good deals in there, but there were some
head scratchers as well. They had JSRF going for $30. Eternal Darkness,
which sells every where else for $20, was on special for $35.

I remember trading in PS1 games for the Xbox and getting $1 for GT2 and $17
for 3X-treme.
WTF?

Well, let me throw a monkey wrench in here. I do all my Pre-Orders
through a local shop here. Selection of Xbox games is by far superior
than those at the local Best Buy, prices are equivalent and the PreOrder
always comes with the book and is always $5 less than BB who provides
nothing extra unless it is included in the national promotion.

Of course I have been in OTHER local shops that do exactly as you
describe as well.

All has to do with demand. GT2 tons of copies out there and they likely
had tons of it themselves...the other game likely was not as many
produced and they had few if any copies of it. How the whole used game
thing works...not on actual quality of the games.

Major retailers can be almost as bad.

The Toys R Us near me still had Tony Hawk 3 and Perfect Dark for the N64
selling at $30 until not long ago--not to mention a handful of Dreamcast
games that were still marked at $30 a piece...even the 2K sports titles. I
was also surprised to recently find The Mark of Kri and ICO at
Wal-Mart...both marked at $29.99.

On the other side of the coin, the local Target had a bunch of sealed games
that rang up at cheap prices-- 007: Nightfire and Catwoman (GameCube
version, not PS2 version) for $5, and a couple of others for $7. They don't
advertise those prices, though--you have to scan them and find out for
yourself.
