Question My WIFI adapter slows down randomly?

Hello,

I have an issue with my onboard wifi. The motherboard i have is a ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI. I'm using the onboard wifi and somedays my wifi is 700-900mbps and sometimes it drops down to around 120mbps? I have all the necessary drivers installed and updated. This happenes completely randomly it seems, I'm completely uneducated with networking so apologies if ive missed anything!

There are a number of reasons this can happen. The adapter is getting too hot, interference from other devices, network activity, your PC's activity, etc.

How are you measuring this apparent drop in performance?

Over the past month or so everytime i download something the download is either 700+mbps or maxing out at around 120mbps this happens on any download really. I've also measured my network speed with internet speed tests and they read the same as the downloads.

You can download apps for your PC or phone like inSSIDer and 'Wifi Analyzer', they will show you the other wifi routers and the strength of the signals at the 2.4 and 5.8 ghz bands.

Your neighbors microwave might cause noise which might not impact your WiFi connection but it might cause his to 'jump' or change channels and conflict with yours.

Okay ive installed inSSIDer, what should i be looking out for?

Download speed is also impacted by server performance (where you are downloading from). That is not a good way to measure your performance.

Honestly, this happens everywhere with everyone and may not be something you can do much about.

You can optimize your own wireless network with tools like previously recommended.

That could be the adapter itself getting very hot. Please describe the cooling setup of your PC.

I have 6 intake fans and 1 exhaust fan, 3 of the intake fans are on a radiator for my AIO for my CPU.

I have 3 intake at the back and 3 at the top where the rad is mounted and the one exhaust at the rear

Are your fans oriented like in the picture on the NZXT site?

Those top fans in the picture are exhaust. Yours should be, too, even if that is where you installed your AIO radiator.

I've flipped them now so they're an exhaust

What speed does ethernet provide. Isolate, isolate, isolate.

Everything else works totally fine. Ive noticed this sometimes happens after a restart

With wifi, you may simply have to live with it. Did you optimize your wireless network per some of the previous recommendations?

To completely alleviate the issue means switching over to a wired connection. Is that a possibility for you?

You said it happens everywhere. Does that mean different devices? Is the router in an open area?
