My win XP Laptop had regsvr.exe virus i removed the virus,

but still it is very slow at startup it takes around 5 minutes to load the icons

Please help...

what antivirus your are using.... system spec...

get ccleaner for cleaning temp file...
perform disk cleanup & defragmentation ....

From the Start button, go to Run and in the Open box, type msconfig then press Enter. Click the StartUp tab and look through the list of ticked items. Untick everything except your anti-virus and firewall, click Apply and then OK. The system will want to restart and when it has, tick "Don't show this message again" and hit Enter. Was that faster?

You may not have completely cleaned up your machine and probably need stronger scanners to find the residue and I recommend you go to http://www.malwarebytes.org and download MalwareBytes. Install it and let it update itself and restart then run the Quick Scan. Make sure everything if finds is ticked and click on Remove Selected then restart the system. Open MBAM again and run the Full Scan and repeat that process then after that restart, go back in and click the Logs tab. Then, please copy and paste both the logs back here so posters can check what you got rid of and decide whether you need further advice.

You haven't stopped any of your programmes from working by altering the StartUp configuration - they just won't slow down the booting process but will still start when you call for them.

i am using trend micro i had cleaned the temp cookies & internet files but still the problm is same..

ccleaner can do more than removing temp files.. try it.. it also has startup editor & registry cleaner..it's a freeware about 3 MB..

you ave not yet given any details of you system config..
