My wireless internet connection keeps randomly disconnecting though signal still strong.

My internet connections disconnects randomly, usually once every couple of days but sometimes a few times a day. When it disconnects, my computer still shows that I have a strong signal, but I can't load any pages. Turning off and on the router does not help. The only thing that helps is rebooting my computer, which is quite annoying since I work online and don't have time for that. I have DSL and use an Edimax to connect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Make sure your router is broadcasting its SSID. Some ppl like to disable it in the false belief it will provide more security. But doing so can sometimes lead to unreliable connections.

Sometimes it’s just a bad wireless adapter. At the moment, I happen to have a small netbox computer w/ built-in wireless adapter. Does the very same thing. It drops the wireless connection after several hours, for no reason. Only a reboot restores it. Yet, every other wireless device (and I have LOTS of them) works perfectly. Sometimes you just get a dud.

If you didn't specifically, knowingly, disable it, it's very likely enabled (that's the default). Of course, if you *see* the SSID in your list of available access points, then naturally it *is* enabled.
