My XFX 650w just burnt out my sata cable

Yea so it burnt the sata cable from the motherboard to the dvd drive, i noticed something was wrong because my system kept powering down for no reason but the cable start smoking a fried the dvd drive and althought the sata 3 port is working has damaged it also.

What could have caused the PSU to do this?

Lightning strike, bad power down the line, bad PSU, poor grounding in the house... any the list goes on and on.

Was this the data or power cable. I would find it hard to believe it could be the data cable as there is no voltage going through it. I could be wrong.

there is some voltage but not alot

its was the 6gbps cable it burnt on both ends and ruined both motherboard sata port and dvd drive port

also guys my build was under a month old and just recently strange things were happening especially when plugging into usb sockets it was asif it was too much for the PSU and it would cut all power to the computer. or if i turned it on it would cut out within seconds, i used a 2nd PSU i have which is a corsair 430w to test it on to make sure it was the PSU and it worked perfect on the Corsair one.
