MyBook Live slow read speeds, full write speeds

Hello community.
I'm hoping someone can help me figure out why my book live reads so slow. a brief description.
My Book Live 3TB version
MBL 100/1000 connected to gigabit router connected to my pc via gigabit.
I can write files to the MBL at normal speeds getting @ 20MBps
read speeds from MBL are capped @ 1.6MBps never higher
I have tested and changed both the ports and cables to all devices. all check out OK.

Speeds determined by copy times of the same file. fast to MBL, slow out of MBL.
Has anyone experienced this/similar?
is it the drive? <--betting against recent self tests passed
is it the network? <--pretty sure my troubleshooting on that front is good
is it the enclosure/firmware?
I noticed the slowdown after I upgraded to linux mint 17.3, but my laptop is showing the same slow progress it is running 17.2
Thanks

wait... you upgraded the MBL to mint? or you upgraded your own pc to MINT 17.3?

if it was your own pc, i don't see why that would matter. Network storage shouldn't be affected by that. Some reviews claim the MBL uses some sort of software installed on your pc to allow data transfer... if thats the case then the chances that it works well with non-windows pcs is probably pretty small.

my pc to mint.
I mention it because it was after the upgrade that I noticed the degradation.

no software needed. mint see's it as a network device and connects through Nemo (linux version of windows explorer)

what has me confounded is the speeds seem reversed. read speeds are usually much much faster than write.

rebooting. moving. everything short of resetting and killing all my data, which at the current rate will finish transferring sometime at the end of the century. haha

no problems with internet. 50/5 speed. I tried through a switch, and through another router , and back to original setup. 1.6MBps

since its happening to both the laptop and desktop and it's not the network, all that i can say is it sounds like it's a problem with the drive itself. see if there is a firmware/software update for it available (there should be a web GUI interface for it), if there is try those, if not, then i'd say it's failing for some reason.

contact WD and see what they think?

yeah that is what I was afraid of. no new firmware available. running a full self test now. if it see's nothing I'll open it up and test the drive alone. I hope it is just the enclosure.
The WD forums have no mention of this particular strangeness.
Thanks
