Mystery Powderhorn

Hello,
Need help to find out information on an old powderhorn that my nephew dug up. It was acid tested and told it was silver. A lady that buys gold & silver told me it was silver. Want to know what the double eagles and family crest mounted on it stands for. It has other beautiful designs. Could anyone please help me find out this mystery?

Another thing you can try is, see if you an find the same powderhorn or similar for sale on e-bay or another antique type online auction. Might give you an idea of what its worth. Ballpark anyway.

I still think you should get it appraised by an antique firearms expert.

I will try to locate an antique firearms expert. I have searched the internet but can't find one like it. If you happen to know an antique firearms expert would you let me know?

have you tried dropping a photo of it into google image search to see if it can find images of similar items?

dont know how good google image search is but cant hurt to try it

You need to take it too a museum specializing in such things and have an expert look at it. It could be valuable, for the silver alone. If it is indeed a powder horn, you can contact the NRA firearms museum in Washington D.C. That would be a good start.

My guess, considering its made from silver, is that its' a ceremonial uniform decoration not used in actual combat or hunting. Then again, considering the double eagles it could have been a real powder horn for a wealthy individual used for hunting.

Seek out a historical firearms expert and have them examine it.

I have tried to find a NRA firemans specialist & a Antique firemans expert, but I can't find an email to converse or send photos to them. Have the same problem when I go to NRA firearms museum. Hopefully I can find one sooner or later. This sure is a mystery to me yet exciting.
