NAS hardware
Hello everyone, I have a Synology 423+, the one gigabit bandwidth is limiting.
I should buy a 2.5GB switch and then however how can I configure it?
Do I just connect two LAN cables to the Synology and two to the switch?

Do I need to connect two cables from the NAS 1GB to the switch 2.5GB and then connect one cable from the router to the PC 2.5GB?
Does the switch have to support a specific protocol? Is this model okay? Thanks for your help.

The NAS only has 2 1GB ethernet ports with link aggregation, which means you can tie the two ports together to get a combined 2GB connection.

To utilize that you would need a switch that has link aggregation like this one LINK

You would then plug your computer into port 1, Agg ports 2 & 3 together and plug the NAS into them, and plug your internet into port 8. Which in turn would give you a 2GB link between your computer and NAS

It's a shame your NAS doesn't seem to come with an internal PCIe slot for a 2.5G RJ45 NIC, but another solution is to buy a USB3 2.5G Ethernet dongle.

It saves all the aggravation of teaming two Gigabit ports. All you need is one Cat6 cable between the dongle and a 2.5G switch.

I use similar 2.5G USB dongles with my laptops and a 10G SFP+/RJ45 switch.

The dongles do run warm, but are a cheap and cheerful solution to the problem.
