NAS Connectivity across 2.4 and 5 GHz Wireless Networks

No matter what I do, I cannot seem to access my NAS device from both my 2.4 and 5 GHz wireless networks. I have given the NAS a Static IP and I have tried it with a dynamic IP where I called the device using the device name. In both instances I was able to access the NAS from my 2.4 GHz connection but not the 5 GHz connection. I have tried reserving the IP address on the router. Nothing seems to work.

Solution

I might suggest making sure the 5 Ghz band is not tied only to the guest network (if available on your router).

Also, find if you can ping any other LAN devices when connected to the 5 GHz band.
Yes, I agree with that except the laptop can access the router from both wireless networks as a call to 192.168.1.1 brings up the router configuration. Just a call to the NAS IP address fails on 5Ghz but succeeds on 2.4Ghz. The IP address for the NAS is 192.168.1.170. I cannot reach it or even ping it when connected to 5Ghz.

That would point to router settings being different between 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

My router can have different QoS settings for each band.

You can presumably access the internet via the 5GHz band?

Probably not your situation, but "QoS" can be 'prioritized' down to zero...lol

And that was just one example of different settings in the router. There might be other things.
