Hi guys,

I am looking in to NAS`s these days, and seems Link Aggregation is getting more and more common.
I am considering to get a QNAP 231P (for my budget reasons). It does have a Dual Port Ethernet.

Now my existing NAS MyCloud 1st Gen only gave me 30/40MB Speeds over wifi ac on a Mac via AirPort Extreme

I do understand that LAN would increase the speeds, but my setup doesnt allow me to get a LAN connection to my Mac.

What I wanna know is considering how Fast Wifi ac connection is, will I be able to get increased speeds from my NAS with Dual Port Link Aggregation over wifi ac ?

Devices

Computer : Macbook Pro 2014
NAS : QNAP 231P
Router : Apple AirPort Extreme
Switch : Any Gigabit Switch with Link Aggregation

I have the larger brother of the 231P, the TS-431P, and I have link aggregation on its two ports. I assume you're going to link aggregate the two ports on the switch, and then connect to one of the ports on the Airport Extreme. The theoretical maximum speed of its Wifi is 1.3 gigabits, but any computer wirelessly connected to it will only get the theoretical maximum of the wired connection (1 gigabit) because the wired connection is the bottleneck - even with LAG. Two computers connected wirelessly to the Airport Extreme, accessing files on the QNAP at the same time, can get their own theoretical 1 gigabit connection to the QNAP, but are now sharing the wireless bandwidth - which then becomes the bottleneck.

Here is a video on link aggregation for the QNAP TS-431P (with a D-link switch).
