Hi guys,
So i currently have a synology DS216se and i want to upgrade, plan is for a qnap. Point is, I currently have a 6tb full red [strike]nas[/strike] NAS hdd. When i do upgrade what is the best simple way to transfer the current HDD, i believe that if i take the original hdd out of Synology and put it in the Qnap it will loose the data. If i plug it into my computer i need to go through all these loop holes and or install linux.
Can i install the Qnap (with new 6TB Drive) on the network with the original and then transfer through the network?
thanks guys.

Solution
2x NAS boxes are no problem.
Just have them both connected to the router, and transfer that data through the network as normal. Don't try to connect them together directly.
You will almost certainly lose your data by just moving the drives to the QNAP, even among models from the same manufacturer you need to check with their support about moving array drives to a new NAS box.

I would just copy them over an Ethernet connection as you are considering.

You may want to consider keeping the old Synology attached to the network but usually turned off and used for the backup of your main array -- the new QNAP.

Thank you, just to confirm, adding the qnap ti the network wont have issues due to having two nas ?
Also can I connect the two nas systems with an ethernet or would it just use normally as each are connected to the modem through an ethernet ?
