NAS: Why is Synology considered better for Mac?

I am struggling to chose between Synology and QNAP for use in my mostly Mac environment. QNAP seems to offer more hardware and more software functionality for the same money so I would like to understand why Synology is recommended more for Mac users.

I have tried both live OS demos and the Synology DSM was easier to use but even as a demo it felt slower than QTS. I could figure out what I wanted to do in DSM relatively easily while I had to google search to figure out how to do the same thing with QTS but QNAP offers useful instructional videos so I am not certain the added complexity of QTS is that big of deal.

If anyone has experience with either or both as a Mac user I would love to get some feedback. I am using this as photo storage and time machine backup. Good mobile apps would be nice but I am mainly going to mount the drive to my computer and just use it as I would an external time machine.

Solution
Get a low cost Mac Mini connect via TB to an external RAID, your server will leave QNAS or Synology in the dust, matter of fact you can use 10Gb downstream even
