Can I use this, WD Elements 4TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive WDBWLG0040HBK-NESN Black , as a NAS. I know it has no ethernet port but my router has a USB port.

Yes you can though access/throughput thru a router is typically slower then thru a real Nas.
