I am having a problem. I can fly smaller planes and the ILS seems to work
"automatically" and sets its self.

when I fly larger jets like the 737 or similar, airtraffic controll gets me
lined up but the ILS is always set incorrectly.

could someone explain what i need to do to get this to work right?

Thanks

Hi,

With an HSI, you have to set the arrow (or whatever) to the runway's
heading. That way it's displays will be logical to you. This is not
automatic, and must be done by you.

Hope this helps,

Is your problem losing orientation with the HSI (horizonal situation
indicator) display in the jets vs. the fixed position of the indicators in
the standard OBI (omni-bearing indicator) insturments??

Was about to write up a handy `app note' for the HSI arrow or
OBS Indicator.. whatever is the correct description. If you've not
reprogrammed the [ V ] key.. tapping in and ranging the Bearing
Pointer around - or + is simple with the [ - ] and [ = ] keys. Once
you've moved the pointer.. deactivate it by tapping the
[ <-Backspace ] key.

Ex: [ V ] + [ = ] to rotate pointer clockwise.. [Bksp] to deactivate

Soon you'll be doing this without hardly thinking.. maybe even overuse
(like me) and point to each new heading given by ATC. :)

As with the GS in elev.. turn aircraft towards the `bar' to center it!

Hi Gregory

Does the above work in the virtual cockpit (in FS8)?

Yep.. it works in VC mode in FS8.. but not all installed planes have
full VC.. or any VC for that matter. That is.. some of the VC's have
textures but all-black for the gauges. Many times both Int and Ext
bitmaps are converted to 512x512, DXT1, white alpha. You see.. on this
platform there must be significant tradeoffs for performance reasons.

CORRECTION..

Have mis-type the Bearing Indicator key sequence.

[ V ] key - selects OB Indicator mode

[ - ] key - rotates pointer counter clockwise ( - )

[ = ] key - rotates pointer clockwise ( + )

[Bksp] - deselects Indicator mode (back to zoom view mode)

ALSO..

When ATC says to set Xponder code.. hit T to enable digit 1
TT digit 2.. TTT digit 3.. and TTTT digit 4. And [ - ] [ = ] for
tuning.. then [Bksp] to deselect.

OK, Gregory, ta for that.

I have only FS8 default aircraft installed and fly mainly the Cessna
172 and both Cessna Caravan versions.

So, I do think your keyboard options are worth trying.
