NBN Speeds not real DL speed?

We have iinet 50/20 NBN at our house and we expected decently quick download speeds in our house. I ran a speed test and it says about 45-50 mbps Down.

But once i booted up steam it peaks at 5.7-6 Mg a second.

Ive called iinet and they say its supposed to be that speed with our current plan and that 50mbps is supposed to download at 5 mb/s.
I dont know if this is laziness or not but im not satisfied at our speed.

50Mb refers to megabits whereas Steam and other clients/programs measures speed in megabytes.

There is 8 bits in 1 byte to divide 50 by 8 to fin your actual theoretical download speed.

If you are not satisfied with your speed I'd advise you upgrade your package.

Download speeds are also not just what YOUR computer and connection can do, it's what the system on the other side can do, along with general netwok traffic on the internet.

If you try to download real pictures of Jesus hugging Big Foot on an alient ship from the guy that runs "ConspiracyCoverup.com" you will probably see pretty slow download speeds.
