Near 100% GPU using at 144hz, is that normal?

I have recently bought a 144hz/1440p monitor.

First thing I noticed was that my GPU is being used at 95-100% which of course is increased temps massively.

I get around 100+ fps on most games I have tried.

Is it game specific? Like games which are really graphics intensive?

I tried to switch down to 1080p and it decreased usage down to 80-100%.

Is this normal with 144hz monitors?

I7 7770k at stock
16gb ram 2133mhz can be pushed to 3000mhz just having turned the setting on in the motherboard
Ichill x4 GTX 1080
Acer XB270HU monitor.

You switched from a resolution where your CPU was the limiting factor to a resolution where your GPU is the limiting factor, 100% normal.

Completely normal and actually good, you are completely utilising your gpu with no sign of a CPU bottleneck.

Yep, in fact you want your gpu to be the limiting factor in performance (running at 90-100%), means nothing else in your system is bottlenecking.
