nearly new asus x540l starts up to asus incredible then goes to black screen then won't do anything after that

Worked fine since new a few months ago, Today I updated to the latest w10 version and restarted as required, but all that happens is the Asus sign lights up then goes to a black screen and nothing works. No response to pressing any keys, and will not turn off. No removable battery, I have to wait for the battery to run down to try anything new, Would appreciate any suggestions.

Prepare new bootable stick/cd with Windows 10. Try to boot it and go through windows 10 repair tool.

Turn off the power supply with the switch and remove the power cord. Wait the 30 seconds and reconnect (plug in the silly cable and turn back on the power switch). THen turn on the computer. I have seen this before. Why? Let me consult my crystal ball.
