Hi

I read the article on the Nec 1760V/NX about a week ago, and since i'm currently in the market for a new 16ms LCD, I decided to check it out.

Strangely, in Norway, where I live, the 1760VM is not a 16ms display, but the 1760 NX is. What's more, they both have DVI connections, and are both much more expensive than the CML174, about 200$ to be precise, all contrary to what the article claimed.

Are there different versions for different areas, is the article wrong or am I wrong? Any help here would be appreciated..

While I'm at it, has anyone seen or tested the Acer Al732 or Hyundai Q17AS? (both are 16ms displays that look real good, as opposed to CML174, that don't get much mention here..)

This is my first post, hopefully someone will bother to answer.. :)

I just bought the 1760v, at 60hz max resolution 1280x1024,
the screen trailing problem is not bad at all, versus Mag Innovision 17" 765s. Strange thing is, some part of this 1760v is blurry, some part is clear and sharp. And I have to adjust the "fine" and still cannot get every single spot on the screen to be sharp. But Mag Innovision is sharp EVERYWHERE on the screen @60hz. If you change it to 75, some part will be blurry and some will not be blurry which is NOT good. but at 60hz, it's perfect. Now with NEC 1760v, even at 60hz, some part is stil blurry and some part is sharp, I can't use this for programming, this will suck big time. I would get the LT765s Mag Innovision, BUT, the brightness adjustment is screwed up, everytime I power on the monitor, the brightness is set to MAX and I have to set it every single time. Maybe I am just unlucky. Is this sharp and blur effect, the result of analog input? if so, then the 1760v is no good at all and the conversion between analog and DV is NOT the same and you CAN distinguish between the 2. But if this sharp+blur effect is not due to this DVI-analog issue, then this LCD is not worth the money. Or are all LCD like this? but no, the mag innovision looked fine when I bought it. Now I'll have to return them both. Can someone help explain why I'm seeing this sharp-some place-blur-some-other-place "problem"?

yesterday i purchased the nec 1760v from a local retailer here in canada. i have not experienced any blurry areas on the screen that you have mentioned. however, i too have concerns about this monitor. my concern regards the fact that images in general on this monitor look grainy, almost speckled in a way. it isn't a problem with the colors since they are the best i've seen on an lcd, not to mention the blacks are much nicer than on other lcds i've worked with in the past. can you confirm this grainy look on yours? initially i had this monitor connected to an nvidia tnt2 which to my knowledge has a 300mhz ramdac which i thought might be the problem. later i changed it to a 3dfx voodoo3 3000 that i have here that has a 350mhz ramdac which did not resolve this grainy/speckled look that are noticeable on solid colors/images displayed on the screen. what do you think about this?

X,

This is kind of strange, yes, I see that granny pattern on a solid color as if there is a extra net overlapping it. BUT, my other friend also bought 1760v (white case) and it looks very sharp, brilliant at 60 even 75hz!!! what's going on with my settings? Could it be that the one I got is not good? Could it be that my video card isn't good? On his computer, there is no blurriness, there is bright color and trailing is like a CRT, in fact, it is better than the CRT! and the granny pattern isn't seen on his computer at all!! what's going on? Brand X, did you also get a black casing one or white casing one?

Now this phase-"fine" tuning problem is another issue, I still yet haven't figured out yet. I tested it on 2 computers and both are the same, as if some part is in focus, and as you read a text from left to right, some part of the texts becomes thicker and "blurrier" and then it becomes focused again. I think this blurriness is due to that the pixel is jumping left and right? So that means the analog conversion to digital is not good? but ... ahh.. this is killing me.

I found out even more, I borrowed my friend's white case LCD1760v and to my surprise, it is very sharp, brilliant color and fast response time even on MY computer. I'm not even using the manufacturers vga cable. This monitor is really top of the line of all the LCD IMHO, BUT a big BUT, but why was the one I bought is so blurry at all frequencies? This blurriness is unique at 60hz, it's sharp in one vertical column of pixels, but it's blurry on the next columns. I don't know how to describe it, by chaning the "phase" or "fine" tuning, I can change the blurry part to become sharp, but the sharp parts becomes blurry. It's really like changing the "phase". I have no clue what went wrong with the NEC 1760v. I returned it anyway. Now tha tI'm not sure if the next one I bought will carry the same problem or not, but again BRAND X, to answer your question about the granny pattern, it's not there at all on my friend's 1760v white case screen. Did you buy one with a black case, housing?
and I have no clue why the picture displayed here in tom's guide has a white frame, but a black casing. The black one I bought was all black.

the 1760v that i purchased is black. so far i haven't noticed any blurriness. when setting it up i just used the auto tune option and it has been good since. i really enjoy having a lcd monitor for the space saving, perfect geometry reasons, but i feel i will return this monitor for something else, most likely a crt. my brother and i tested the video quality while playing dvds and it performed better than other lcds i've used, but still not as acceptable as a good crt. my only real issue with keeping this monitor is that i know in a brief time (perhaps 3~5 months) nicer lcds will be availabe for the same price. when spending this much money on a monitor, i would like to have confidence that it will be current for longer than 3 months. the lcd market is just moving too fast for me i guess... soon enough lg/philips will have lcds on the market with ~12ms response with much better contrast and viewing angles. for me, that is worth waiting for.
