nec multisync fe950/voodoo5 resolution

hey guys,i could really use some help with this one-i just bought a multisync fe950,to replace my 17in monitor-however,when i try to play quake3 or ut,(open gl/glide)i can't use 1600 x 1200 without the picture being all screwed up.(i never had this problem before) all resolutions below this work fine in these games,however,and 1600 x 1200 is not a problem on the desktop,only when i try to play a game. by the way the picture looks,i'm almost sure its a refresh problem,but i really cant be sure-and i have tried customer support at nec,but i'm sure you all know how THAT went,i'm not even sure they know what a video card is. the monitor is running on a voodoo5 5500 pci,(no other video cards on board) and a pentium3 933,if that matters. much thanks to anyone that can help!!

check if your monitor even supports that resolution. I know my older 17 inch monitor doesn't, and I thought most didn't go up to 1600x1200
