Name: Necrogen Mists
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player discards a card
from his or her hand.
Color: Black
Casting Cost: 2B
Card Type: Enchantment

Name: Naturalize
Destroy target artifact or enchantment.
Color: Green
Casting Cost: 1G
Card Type: Instant

I play Necrogen Mists during the main phase of my turn. During my
opponents next turn he untaps and then taps 1G to cast Naturalize
targeting my Necrogen Mists. The way that I see it, the Necrogen
Mists ison the stack first, then the Naturalize. His Naturalize
removes my NM, but the NM triggered ability still causes him to have
to discard a card from his hand. Is this correct?

Thanks,

Phil

That's correct. At the beginning of the upkeep the ability goes on
the stack, and then he'll get priority, but he'll still have to
discard.

Yes, that is correct.

Note that if the Naturalize was the only card in his hand, then when
the Mists's triggered ability resolved, there would be no cards left,
no Nothing In Particular would happen. But yes, if the game gets to
his upkeep, he'll have to discard a card if he has one.

Before reading further: if you Naturalize a Mists during an upkeep step, its
triggered ability will -already be on- the stack, and will resolve as normal.
To stop the Mists from going off in a given turn, the LATEST you can get rid
of it is during the _previous_ turn's End phase.

This is correct. The Mists triggered and went on the stack before anyone at
all had priority, on his turn. So his Naturalize that upkeep has to either
go on top of it, or get cast after the Mists ability has already resolved. He
has no way to "get the Naturalize on the stack first", let alone get it to
_resolve_ before the Mists can trigger.

You are correct. (Well, the Mists isn't on the stack, its triggered
ability is, but you have the right basic idea and the right end result.)
