Need 48 hz, 16-bit, AND my analog Joy Stick

I've got SB Live! 5.1 digital with the analog joy stick midi input. It has served me well for my games, especially Descent 3/Mercenary.

However, now I am doing video editing with Studio9.3.5. According to my Pinnacle forum, I need a 48 hz sample rate to eliminate my Video Out Of Sync (OOS) with Sound problem. The sound lags and progressively gets worse the longer I capture.

SB Live only provides a maximum of 44.1hz. I can and have captured video/burned at 44.1hz and eliminated the OOS, but the sound is very tinney and buzzy. Like talking into a can and a string toy phone.

A fellow forum member purchased an Audigy (don't know which) and eliminated his OOS by capturing at 48 hz and kept CD/DVD quality sound.

Problem...no midi input for my analog joy stick. I have another midi input to the mother board, though. Will my sound and joystick movements be OOS now for games?

NO, I don't want to get a digital joystick/USB. The one I have works great for Descent 3.

Does Audigy 1 have 16-bit 48 hz sample rate? I saw only the Audigy 2 Value with 24-bit. Does it have 16-bit 48hz stereo regression mode? I don't think Studio even captures higher than 16-bit 48 hz. I don't want the sound to be ahead of the video either.

What is my solution for keeping the analog stick and moving up in sound cards to support my video editing?

I just saw this on a SB Live Value 5.1 at an on-line relailer:

Hollywood-Quality, 32-Bit Digital Audio Engine - Processes bit resolutions from 4-bit to 16-bit - Processes sample rates from 5kHz to 48kHz - All sound sources are bundled with 32-bit precision for highest quality output - Analog and digital I/O modes supported - Hardware full duplex support enables simultaneous record and playback at 8 standard sample rates - Utilizes AC '97 Audio Codec

So, does my SB Live do 16-bit 48hz? If so, how can I get it to do it? I've only found 44.1hz max in the properties. Did Dell strip my Value?

Maybe via a driver update?

You could always use two cards, one just for the gameport. You could even disable the audio features on that card.

I think I saw an Audigy with an extra card for midi input during my search yesterday. I'll have to track that down.

So, can I use the midi input on my system instead? I'll have to check that tonight. Probably got some IRQ issues, though.

Oh, and I found out that my card definitely does not support 48hz. I need an Audigy or a SB Live 24-bit to get to 48hz.

If you find a card with the 15-pin internal header (might be 16-pins with a dead pin) for MIDI you should be able to attach a gameport header to it.

Well here it is. Didn't see a picture of it on the package, but the Audigy 2 ZS has a joystick midi rack that is included (listed on the side panel of the box). The Audigy 2 Value does not. The rack goes into one of the openings available next to the PCI slots. It doesn't take up a PCI slot, only the output opening. So, essentially, you lose the PCI slot anyway unless you can cut another opening in your case.
