Need 6pin plug

Hello, this is my first time building a computer and I just put my computer together. I turned my computer on and everything was working. I then looked at my computers specifications and it was using my CPU graphics instead of my GTX 970.. My Graphics cards has 2 plugs: A 8 pin divided into 6+2 and a 6 pin plug.I plugged in the 8 pin, but my power supply does not come with a 6 pin plug. Is there something I should purchase to solve this problem?. This is my build

The graphics card should've came with both pins you need. If you can't find any, you can easily find one at a store like CPL, MSY, PC Case Gear or even eBay if your desperate

It's called a "4 pin to 6 pin power cable". You should easily Google that and find some results from local stores for you.

u can plug the 8pin aka (6+2) to the 6pin plug, just let the 2pin hanging on the air..

This is why PSU using the 6pin + 2pin standard the last 2pin is only jumper if I'm correct..
it send signal to PSU that it allowed to deliver more power to the 6pin...

if it not plunged then it will only deliver power up to normal 6pin standard (forgot the wattage for 6/8pin standard)


edit: also to make sure the vid running from GPU instead of IGP connect the monitor via GPU and not via motherboard ...

after checking that psu carries 4x 8pin (6+2) PCI-ex cable, u don't need to buy anything else..

I just plugged the 6 pin into my video card and my computer is still not detecting the video card. Do you know what else it could be?

what u means it not detected? is it cannot boot, no display, or it not detected in windows?
is the gpu fans spinning? have u installed the driver?

Make sure the monitor cable is plunged/connected to graphic card and not to motherboard back plate/connector..
Also Make sure the 4p or 8p 12v mobo power from psu also plunged correctly to motherboard...

see if the gpu fans is spinning, and u able to boot into windows and install the driver..

edit: the 4/8p 12v power is different than 6+2pin pci-ex ones, make sure u are not using wrong one
(it can fried the system) but usually it will not get in since the shape of the pin/socket is different..
(it's a safe guard)

My computer boots and windows is good. The LEDs on the video card turn on. The video card fan is running, it's just it says I'm using Intel graphics. I plugged my monitor into my motherboard because the video card does not have a hole that's shaped like the monitor plug. then nothing is wrong with the gpu, the card will not start if it not connected to monitor, that's why u only running igp..

your monitor only support vga and hdmi, and the card itself have DVI-I, DVI-D, Hdmi, DP, u can use DVI-I to VGA adapter, see if it supplyed with/in GPU box.. (usually supplyed)
if not then u need to buy it...

edit: or u just can use hdmi cable (check again if it supplyed in/with vga box or monitor box)..

read the gpu book/manual where to install the adapter (DVI-I port)
