Hi tom's GD,
Need someone to please build me a machine for around 2000 ( you can pick parts in the US since the parts have similar prices translated to euros here in portugal).

This is intended to be a Autocad 2D and inventor 3D machine, other software such as corel or photoshop is also used, NO GAMING.

My dell workstation with an e5520 @2.2 and nvidia fx560 is sarting to lose its power and is not handling big projects very well.

Inventor projects get quite large with many parts, so it needs to be fully capable of handling multiple parts open at the same time.

I prefer NVIDIA as far as GPU goes.
Rest is up to you.
Single (possibly 2 in the future) 1080 Monitor.

Thank you,

Since there isn't gaming this setup with a quadro card should do fine. I didn't see a Nvidia Quadro k2000/k4000 listed but that card would work as well.

I've done similar builds for users here in the office (minus closed loop water cooling) for cad/auto cad programs such as autocad/ civil 3d, microstation, etc.

This is a good build and should work well - just make sure you do get a Quadro K2000 or K4000 NOT the 2000 or 4000 - the K is important, it denotes the newer series cards which are vastly more powerful than the previous series

That's correct, there just wasn't many options on PC parts picker so I just chose any higher level quadro card. Amazon does sell Nvidia k2000/k4000 cards and both would be fine. Since i went over the 2k budget the k2000 might be the better option.

Thanks, this is around what i wanted seems preety good, i may swap the ram for KINGSOTN becouse i usually get good deals on it.

On a side note, what NON-Quadro GPU could you recommend if i wanted to save a few extra, or re-adapte it for gaming.

As far as the RAM just be careful about the clock speeds and MHz rating as CAD work is pretty memory intensive and you'll notice a difference if you cheap out on the RAM.

As far as a Non-quadro card, I'm not sure how specific CAD applications fare without a card specifically designed for such tasks. I'd imagine you'd have to go high end and look at a 780GTX.

Thanks, i am aware of the ram speeds, i never really cheap out on anything.
Thanks for all the help,

Going for a Geforce over a Quadro card will buy you a lot more power for your money, but in many applications this is countered by the dedicated drivers that come with the Quadro card - so it really comes down to what apps you're going to be running.

For example, Softimage, 3DSmax, Maya - you should be fine with a Geforce, anything Autodesk CAD - go Quadro
